Water temperature has a direct bearing on KOI's metabolism. The warmer the water, the faster the metabolism and need for food. Here is a feeding breakdown based on temperatures for KOI:
Above 65 degrees: High levels of protein are needed for growth and energy. KOI should be fed up to three times a day.
65-45 degrees: As water temperatures cool down KOI need less protein and more carbohydrates in their diet.
Below 45 degrees: Once the water temperature drops into the low 40’s and below, it is not recommended to feed KOI. Their metabolism drops to a point where they cannot digest feed.
